Day 3, Tuesday
Ride partway up the east coast of Keuka Lake then head up along the ridge to the Geneva on the Northern end of Seneca Lake. From there, we will head east to spend the night midway between Waterloo and Seneca Falls.
Rides of rolling 49 miles or somewhat hillier 58 miles
The ride along the ridges between Keuka and Seneca Lakes has some beautiful Mennonite & Amish farmland, rolling terrain, and great valley vistas. You'll pass an Amish one-room school house and cobble stone farm houses built 150 years ago. The Weaver-View Farms between Penn Yan and Geneva is an Amish country store with quilts, foods and nostalgic gifts.
The towns of Dundee or Pen Yan are locations for a rest breaks. Later in the ride you can take a nice break in the old college town of Geneva, home of Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Stop at Belhurst Castle for a wonderful lunch. Belhurst, meaning beautiful forest, is a Victorian mansion built in 1885. Or stop downtown in the convenience store or deli for a casual nosh.
We'll ride at the tip of Seneca Lake for a whiule on a lakeside bike path.
A slight detour from the route will allow you to visit Rose Hill Mansion
On you way through Waterloo, the birthplace of Memorial Day, you may wish to stop at the Memorial Day Museum in this wonderful old community. Or, visit the great antique shops in Waterloo.
Waterloo is called the "nicest little village in New York State" and has a wonderful, historic "Walking Tour" past the federal style homes, museums, churches, and the summer home of Dick Clark! Afterall, the end of the day's ride is only another 4 easy miles ahead.
Dinner tonight will be at Abigail's, conveniently located next to the motel.
